What is SPC?
A wood look built for everyday life
SPC stands for stone plastic composite. Each plank has a rigid core, typically made from limestone and PVC, topped with a printed wood-look layer and a clear protective wear layer. Most SPC clicks together and floats over a prepared subfloor without glue or nails, which makes it a popular choice for the concrete-slab homes common in Southern California.

Waterproof refers to the planks, not the whole floor: water can still reach the subfloor at walls, edges or poorly seated seams, and manufacturers generally exclude flooding and subfloor moisture from their warranties. Wear layers, water ratings and warranty terms vary by product — we'll review them for the floor you choose.

SPC flooring FAQ
Is SPC flooring really waterproof?
The planks are. SPC has a waterproof rigid core, so spills and everyday moisture won't make it swell. The installed floor isn't a sealed barrier, though — water from leaks, overflows or flooding can reach the subfloor at walls, edges and seams, so standing water should be cleaned up right away. Manufacturers generally don't cover flood or subfloor moisture damage, and exact ratings vary by product.
Can SPC be installed over concrete or my existing floor?
Often, yes. SPC is commonly installed over concrete slabs when the slab is clean, sound, flat within the manufacturer's tolerance and within its moisture limits — and a vapor barrier or underlayment may be required. Some products can also go over certain existing hard floors, but not over carpet or another floating floor. We check your subfloor at the free in-home estimate and explain any preparation needed.
Can you match my stairs to new SPC floors?
Yes. Stairs can be finished with treads and matching stair nosing to coordinate with your new floors. See stair remodels.
Do you install flooring I've already purchased?
Yes. We can install customer-supplied SPC, or help you select and source flooring for your project. Let us know when scheduling your estimate so we can account for the material.
